Chapter 25: God Forgives Us

In this lesson your child has been given a basic understanding of forgiveness and was introduced to the sacrament of Reconciliation. In this sacrament the Church continues Jesus' ministry of forgiving sinners. Such forgiveness means not just telling God we are sorry, but also seeking ways of repairing any harm done to those we have hurt. The Catechism of the Catholic Church reiterates this important aspect of reconciliation. This lesson also helps your child understand the need for each of us to forgive others.

Forgiving and Being Forgiven

Talk with your child to build an understanding of what it means to say both "I am sorry" and "I forgive you." Help him or her to see that it is necessary to show how you are sorry and how you forgive. Think of ways you can model both of these attitudes for your child this week.
