Chapter 5: God's Promise

This week your child learned the biblical story of the creation of the first human beings. The story is not intended as a literal account of a historical event; it tells us, however, that God is our creator and that human beings lost the original gift of God’s friendship. We call this original sin. The story also reminds us of the reality of sin in our world and in our lives. Because of the very gift of freedom that God gave to us, we are able to turn from God--we commit sin.

However, God did not abandon the human race. God promised to send a Savior: "The Lord will give you a sign: a young woman is with child and will have a son whom she will call 'Immanuel' " (from Isaiah 7:14). Immanuel means "God is with us."

Promises to Keep

Talk together about promises and ways we should try to keep them. Sometimes it is hard to keep a promise, but God will always help us. God always keeps God's promise to love us.

Then pray together:

Thank You, God, for loving us always. Help us to keep our promises.
