Chapter 5: We Belong to Our Parish

As Catholics we belong to the Church throughout the world and to the local Church of the diocese of which our parish is a part. This week your child has learned that the parish is the community where the family lives out its call to bring about the kingdom, or reign, of God on earth. The parish is centered around the Eucharist. We worship God together and are strengthened to reach out to love and serve others, especially those most in need. Vatican II reminds us that we are the people of God, the Church and are called to share our faith. We need to teach our children that all of us are the parish and we are to be active members.

Our Parish

See how much you and your child can find out about your parish history. If possible, involve the entire family in this project. How old is the parish? How does your parish continue Jesus' mission by caring for the needs of others? Who is your present pastor? If you and your child have not met your pastor, stop after Mass and introduce yourselves.
