This week your child continued to learn that the Church celebrates
God's forgiveness in the sacrament of Reconciliation.
She or he has learned that God will always forgive us if
we are sorry for our sins, promise not to sin again, and
make up for what we have done wrong.
This is a good time to discuss as a family the place of the
sacrament of Reconciliation in our lives. You may also
want to discuss when your child will celebrate this
sacrament for the first time. This celebration brings us
not only God's forgiveness of our sins but also God's
peace and love and the grace to avoid sin in the future.
The celebration of Reconciliation also gives us an
opportunity to discuss with the priest things that are
troubling us and to receive direction in living our Christian faith.
One of the best ways to help children develop a lifelong habit of
celebrating this peace-filled sacrament of
Reconciliation is for them to see other members of their
family participating in this sacrament.
The Act of Contrition
Help your child learn the Act of Contrition by heart. Go over the
prayer slowly, phrase by phrase, until your child is
comfortable with it. You might want to do this in
several short meetings rather than all at once.
