Chapter 16: We Prepare for Eucharist

This week your child learned that the Mass is our greatest prayer of thanksgiving. Help your child to know that at Mass:

  • we praise God;
  • we thank God for all God's blessings;
  • we ask God to bless us;
  • we tell God we are sorry for our sins and ask God to help us be good disciples of Jesus;
  • we hear the word of God;
  • Jesus comes to us in Holy Communion.

Ministers of Worship

Before Mass this week encourage your child to see how many people she or he can name who are ministers of worship besides the priest (deacon, eucharistic minister, lector, altar server, song leader, usher). If possible, introduce your child to one of these ministers.

Our Parish Church

On slips of paper, write the names of some things we see at Mass: for example, altar, cross, candles, lectionary with Bible readings, ambo (lectern). Before or after Mass, or during a separate visit to your parish church, let your child pick a slip of paper and then point to the object in church.
