Chapter 20: Lent

This week your child was led to a deeper understanding of the meaning of Lent in the life of the Church and in his or her own life. Lent is a time of ongoing conversion to the way of Jesus Christ. At the beginning of the Lenten season, we receive ashes to remind us of our mortality. We are encouraged to repent for our sins and failings through prayer, self-denial, and fasting. We join with our parish in praying for those preparing for Baptism. We reflect on our participation in the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus and renew our efforts to live our Baptism by following the way of Jesus.

Work together with your child on the Faith Summary. Encourage your child to learn the statements by heart.

Faith Summary

  • Lent is a time to grow in our faith.
  • Lent is a special time to show our love for God, others, and ourselves.
