Chapter 8: God Loves Us Always

This week your child learned more about the Law of Love--loving God above all and loving others as we love ourselves.

It is easy to overlook the third aspect of this law--love of self. Help your child to develop a healthy life-giving love of self.

Sometimes it is hard for a child to think about what God wants when choices have to be made. Parents have a responsibility to help their second graders make good choices. By Baptism we are all called to live and make choices according to the Law of Love. For Christians, everyone is our neighbor, especially those most in need.

Find time to talk over any problems your child might have in making good choices. Remind your child that God will forgive us even when we make bad choices. Teach your child to express sorrow both to God and to the person who has been hurt.

The Good Shepherd

Jesus called Himself the Good Shepherd. The image of shepherd was often used to describe God in the Old Testament. Talk together as a family about ways you can care for one another as "good shepherds." Then think of ways you can be good shepherds in your parish community. Decide what you will do together.

Sharing in the Preparation

Be sure to find out what plans your parish has for children who are preparing for Reconciliation. It is important that together you and your child share in these events.
