Your child is learning how to know right from wrong. He or she has
been taught what sin is and that when we obey the Ten
Commandments we make good choices. But this is not
enough. Your child also needs to live in a family that
shows by its actions how to choose to do God's will. The
Church reminds us that the family is a crucial place for
moral formation. Your good example is most important.
To help your child understand how the Ten Commandments help us to
make good choices, talk about times when you and other
family members made good choices in following the
commandments. Remind him or her to ask the Holy Spirit
for help in making good choices.
The Ten Commandments
Read and discuss the Ten Commandments with your child. (See your
child's book pages 90-91.) Make a poster of some ways
your child can obey the Ten Commandments in his or her
life. Hang the poster either in your child's room or
another prominent place in the home to help your whole
family remember to live God's Law of Love.
