This lesson helped your child understand and appreciate that God has
filled the world with many wonderful living
things--creatures that swim, fly, crawl, and run.
Responsibility to care for these creatures is an aspect
of the Christian commandment of love--an ancient
emphasis that is new to many Catholics. Take a few
minutes to review the Faith Summary on page 71 by
asking your child, "Can you name some things God
made that crawl? fly? swim? run? What do we say to God
for these wonderful things?"
Help your child to respect all living things. During this week point
out the different kinds of animals, fish, and birds in
your environment. Say to your child, "Isn't it
wonderful! God made all these living things."
Story Time
Sometimes it helps to have "quieting down" time before
your child goes to bed. You may want to get some books
on animals from the public library or bookstore and read
them with your child at bedtime. Talk about the
wonderful animals God has put in our world. Have your
child imagine how God wants us to treat all living
things.
I Know Where Animals Live
Share with your child pictures of a tropical forest. Ask your child
what animals can be found in this setting. Help your
child find magazine pictures of these tropical animals;
then cut and paste the pictures in the space on page 71.
