Chapter 13: We Celebrate Christmas

In this lesson your child was drawn into the joyful anticipation of Christmas through experiences of happy sounds and through a reenactment of the Christmas story. The liturgical celebrations of the Church likewise employ a variety of sensory images to deepen our understanding of the Christian message, for example, colors, music, lights, and incense.

Take a few minutes to go over the Faith Summary on page 89 with your child. Ask, "What do we celebrate on Christmas? How does our family celebrate Jesus' birthday?"

Visit the Christmas crib in your parish church and talk to your child about everything you see. Let your child tell you about what we celebrate at Christmas and why it is good news.

Happy Sounds of Christmas

With your child make up a rhyme or song for the family to share when greeting Christmas visitors or when answering the telephone. If you have an answering machine, record the entire family sharing the message. For example, you might sing the song on page 89 to the tune of "Jingle Bells."
