In
this lesson your child learned that all creation is a
gift from a loving God and that God made all things
good. It is up to us to fulfill God's work in us by
living as good people. Help your child to consider the
goodness of God's creation by pointing out good things
and good people in our world. Find simple things to do
together to show that you care for the world.
Five-year-olds are quite capable of understanding the
need to care for our world and its creatures. In fact,
they often see things that adults miss. Help them to
understand that caring for God's creation is part of
Catholic Christian faith. This ecological theme is
emphasized often by Pope John Paul II.
Go
over the Faith Summary on page 53 together. During the week
remind your child, "Everything in the world comes
from God" (from Psalm 24:1).
A
Thank You Activity
Here
is a good "rainy day" activity. Make "playdough"
with your child. Mix: 2 parts flour; 1 part salt; 1 part
water (You may add food coloring to the water to make
colored dough.)
Help
your child to shape a favorite plant or animal out of
the dough. Together, thank God for all the things God
has made.
A
Wonderful World Walk
Take
a walk with your child through your neighborhood or
nearby park to discover the many living things God has
made. At the end of your walk, ask your child to recall
the living things he or she saw. Then help your child to
draw and color some of these things on both sides of a
paper plate. Punch a hole at the top of the plate and
run a piece of yarn through it. Hang the plate in a
special place.
