Chapter 8: God Gives Us Light and Water

In this lesson your child learned that all creation is good. In the Bible we read that God looked at all creation and said, "It is good" (from Genesis 1:31).

Your child learned that light and water are life-giving gifts from God. These gifts are all around us, and children revel in them naturally. To develop this natural sense of wonder and delight in a more focused way, talk to your child about the importance of water and light, so essential to all living things. During the coming weeks point out the many ways we use these gifts. Remind your child that we can take care of God's creation by not wasting water or light. In many countries and in many of our own cities, water is becoming scarce and polluted, and electricity is being wasted by needless use.

Go over the Faith Summary on page 59 together by asking your child, "How can we care for the special gifts of water and light that God has given us?"

A Mobile of God's Gifts

With your child create a mobile of God's gifts of light and water. Help your child trace these patterns and cut them out. Run string through each hole. Tie all the strings to a wire hanger. Hang the mobile in your child's room as a reminder to give thanks for God's great gifts.
